An exceptionally old and rare Upper Sepik garamut terminal, carved with stylized faces in relief.
The carved surface is worn though the images are still clearly visible; the wood exhibits the typical dessication and splitting that is indicative of such great age in Melanesian wooden objects.

Circa first half of the 19th century, Iwam or Kubka peoples, Upper Sepik region, New Guinea.
