Limestone wall fragment, with applied gesso; depicts a vervet monkey holding a cluster of grapes in both paws and tethered to the hind leg of a chair in which the lady of the house is seated. The symbolism of the monkey and the grapes refers to fertility. The placement of these symbols directly behind the lady signifies her fertility. GPA
