Description

An azure glazed faience figure of a hippopotamus, with details in a black glaze , head of hippo resting at top of another hippo. Decoration of lillys & vegetation, colouring are to suggest that the animal is under water.

From the Nikos Paschalis (1918 - 1948) Collection, inherited in 1965 by his sister, Assimina Paschalis, later by descent to Dr W. Galanos of Melbourne, Australia.

Mr Paschalis was the grandson of George Paschalis, the founder of the Paschalion Archaeophylakeion Museum in Samos, Greece in 1912
