Description

An Indus Valley turquoise glazed faience bead seal of conical form with flattened top, the exterior surface with a complex meandering curvilinear design, the abstract forms possibly representing human figures and animals; the base of the bead exposes a central core of azure coloured glassy frit, the vitreous surface with superb pearly iridescence. The bead is perforated laterally at the top for suspension.

 

Origin:

Mohenjo-Daro or Harappa, 3rd millennium B.C.

Dimensions:

Height: 2.8 cm / Diameter at base: 2.8 cm

Condition:

Glaze wear evident; chipping to the base has revealed the vitreous core.
