Description
A rare cedar wood panel form a Dynasty XII square Sarcophagus. The outer surface adorned with a top vertical register of hieroglyphic text in blue pigment, another two vertical registers of text running down the outer edges. A fantastic example, obviously belonging to a person of wealth due to the type of wood and generous amount used, showing the woodworking joinery skill from this period. The translation of the text reads: Top: Beloved - Before - Nepthys. Left: Beloved - Before - The Great Ennead. Right: Beloved the lesser Ennead. |
