Description
A highly unusual Greek Bactrian bronze figure, the elongated, anthropomorphic body with two short, upraised arms protruding from the sides; cast with a spoked, circular base; tiny in contrast to the body, the head is cast in the very naturalistic form of a female head with typically Hellenistic features and hairstyle; verdigris patina overall. The form suggests the piece possibly had a connection with female fertility; it is also possible that the figure is a hollow vessel, and that the head is actually the terminal of an applicator, now fused into the narrow opening at the top of the vessel.
