Description

A beautiful and rare Sogdian burnished red ware ceramic bowl.
The tondo with painted decoration in the form of a frieze of human faces, rosettes and clusters of fruit, with two birds at the centre; below the rim, a sequence of curvilinear abstract designs.
Rejoined from original pieces.

 

Origin:

 Circa 6th-7th century A.D. Samarkand region, Uzbekistan
